It was drizzling and the night had fallen.
The wind was slowly turning stormy and the roads were almost wet. Pitter-patter of the rain was the only sound, that evening apart from the sound of the burning gas stove from a tea stall a few meters away. The rain must have helped the chai wala in anticipating unusual profit margins contributed by his beloved customers. I looked at the new Titan that showed half past seven which I got as Gift from Pooja on my last Birthday.
I waited behind the red bungalow for her that was diagonally opposite to the barren land which was located at the rear side of the tea stall on the lane. Tea stall faced the main road. This half lit lane by the sepia lights led to her house. Thanks to the Corporation for lights with less voltage. The rain cooled the atmosphere and I was shivering.

She could predict few things. One, the next morning news will be announcing ‘a heavy rain last night’ and the other that I would hardly be ready to leave the place without seeing her face and exchanging few words. What could she possibly do? Though I belonged to a middle class, Pooja had fallen for my masculine charms and my athletic build. Besides she never believed in discrimination. Alas! The drizzle has turned into steady rain. She could either meet me behind the red bungalow or sit back into the comforts of her home before anyone realizes her absence in the house. It was a tough call to make. There was a debate of mental impulse and heartfelt warmth inside her. The girl chose her heart. The rain was God’s way of testing her – she thought, and she was determined not to fail. Not this time. I waved my hand in delight as I saw her. Taking long strides, she smiled to brag about her brilliancy in taking a ‘wise’ decision.

She checked her watch and showed me her palm indicating ‘five’. Hope they would have meant hours but I knew it was just, “five minutes of gain with two minutes of pain”. She never understood my phrases. But then I was always like that – using phrases which never made any sense to her.
At that point of time nothing could have made any sense to her because she knew that she was in the safest arms of this universe. No sooner her hands were over the sides of my neck. I held her from the waist and her wet locks fell on my fingers caressing through her shoulders. I wished the shoulders were mine.

I asked, “Why did you get so late?”
She kept mum.
It was still ‘love in the rains’ or ‘Loving the rains’.
I went closer to please her rosy lips. I felt her warmth and to give way to our lust…

… I saw her grave and she was buried underneath. The wind blew across releasing the gravitational pull on the dried & withered away leaves of the Peepal tree nearby. They reached about the height till my forehead. And my thoughts drifted to move away from the grave. I was leaving the cemetery of my best friend whose death was a result of my deeds.
As I passed the gate to the road out there, a fellow, very meek and aged approached me. He was in Green robes of cotton, with an Indian bottom large towel, lungi, caught my attention.
He said in his coarse voice, “She loved you… But remember… She still loves you”

‘Patyala down the throat is an adventures odyssey of a twenty one year old boy who experiences sweet-bitter tastes of life. The story is set in an educational institute (sort of a Grukul) where a soft natured boy turns up seeking solution about his carrier. Dev the protagonist being the only hero discovers facets of love, emoting, sacrifice and other varying emotions across a series of unfortunate events that happens to him. What follows the whirlwind is the advent of Mirchi Seth, 37 china town, dukes of hardcore drinkers rally and the quixotic dilemma keeping the racy style of the novel alive till end. But what seems to change him is a single statement of his mentor which touched his life.

Making full use of his in-dept imaginative power, Chandraprakash has used simple literary words, racy fiction style as well as lots of characters to highlight the inherent attributes of love life and liquor being given more important in front of the carrier stuff in this 21st century life. The book subtly touches human emotions which get entangled in confusion over work or friends. It deals with the complication regarding the toughest part of being an entrepreneur. The question arises whether the protagonist will listen to his own conscience by being the same or will he bring work and his future an important thing in his life.

Speaking about his book, Chandraprakash Mohata author of ‘Patyala down de throat’ says, “This book has consumed three complete years of my life and I have considered every aspect to make this book feel like watching a movie. While this remains a work of fiction, I have tried to give a realistic edge to all the twenty one important character portrayed in it. Taste this fiction to know about the spice inside. When my soul will be read by readers they will realize the excitement of what’s next all the time. According to me this novel is meant especially for the youth of the country not because of the fun and folic evolved due to the combination of love, life and vodka. But this grapevine carries a very important moral left behind by the protagonist. It says, life during college days isn’t for passing time in vain and the Dil-Dosti Mirch masala doesn’t work all the time. At some point in life we have to be serious about our future stuff. I hope, readers will find the story line fascinating and the characters will make it an interesting read.”

She moved her milky white hands and removed the clutcher that clasped her hair. She bent her neck pulling her long brown hair out from under the collar. When she released her hair from its prison, a strong vibe passed across the room gently caressing me.

I enjoyed the freedom which her flowing hair was now experiencing.

“Wow! Is this real?” I whispered to myself.

The freedom burst out of me in the form of words, which came out without any reason.

 ‘The Mountain Girl’

Not made of honey and yet so fair,
Heat melts her away but the heat doesn’t dare,
Big black eyes of a mermaid just awake,
A mist so clear she gives my confines a gentle stoke,
My heart shivers away and the body freezes,
Emotions pour and ooze out; it feels like I’m on the ninth cloud,
That mountain gal with her voice so sweet,
That when she sings it is followed by nature’s greet,
Those tresses of shining and flowing hair
It just feels like mother’s care,
Even the falling rivers shy away and the eyes can’t stop looking there,
Happiness enrobes the atmosphere and all of Pandora’s evils leave,
I feel like caring for her more than anyone can believe,
My friendship resides for her and my goal is nothing without her,
My life though nowhere near hers, still always strives to be with her,
Like the rays of light kill the darkness at their first sight,
Her moonlit charm has castled me in an enchanting night,
She chained ma heart and captured my thoughts,
Her smile disarms me as it says “forget me not”,
Seasons come and seasons go but still ma heart craves for her
I know my destiny strikes on me but still I will always wait for her.

– Love ☺Dev

While I was writing those beautiful words, Ritesh called me. I was about to ask him the reason why he was disturbing me when…
“Hey…. Hey you, stand!” the professor roared.
“Who? Me?” I replied shakily.
“Do you know what is going in the class?” I was silent and everybody was looking at me.
I stood hunched up like a scarecrow, with my eyes vacant, face blank, as if my mind was somewhere else.
“Elasticity and its type’s,” That is what I saw written on the black board.
“It’s good that you at least know the topic. But do you know the meaning of what that means? I know you were not concentrating but busy doing something else while I taught the whole topic.”
“No Ma’am, I was listening to you with both my ears.” I said in a low tone.
“If you think that you are smart enough to fool me then speak exactly what I taught.” She had a booming voice that thundered on me.
Speaking on the topic was an easy task but speaking ‘exactly’ on the topic was something like recreating Da Vinci’s Monalisa. It now became a matter of self respect for me. Jasmine was as usual staring at me but I had no words coming out of my mouth.
There are some impactful instances in life, which leave a trace in one’s memory, and those instances play a very good role in times such as these.
Nirmal Soni’s five-ball theory of elasticity suddenly cropped up in my mind. He was my economics professor at IMS.
I started by using some management jargon to buy time.
“When you stretch elastic substance there is some change but who knows how much change has occurred? The responsiveness to this change in the elastic substance by stretching is elasticity. I would also like to present Marshal’s 5-ball theory (though it was somebody else’s) which will give us a new idea to understand the topic (and prove my sincerity in class). Consider the five types of balls – a tennis ball, a crazy ball, a supernatural ball, a cork ball, and a shot put ball.
Everybody was laughing at me by now.
I don’t know how it came into my mind, but it was something that even the professor was hearing for the first time.
I continued with my theory solemnly.
“If you drop a shot put ball from a certain height say x, you will see that it sticks to the masses and does not bounce back; so elasticity equals to zero (e=0).
If you drop a cork ball from a height x, it would bounce back to half the height; so e< x.
If you drop a tennis ball from a height x, it will bounce back to its original position; so e=x.
If you drop a crazy ball from a height x, it will bounce back above the height from where it was thrown; so e>x.
If you drop a supernatural ball from a certain height it will bounce back to the universe making elasticity equals to infinity.”
I heard everybody in class clapping loudly. They knew that the theory was a stupid excuse and surely not Marshal’s.
They were clapping not for my knowledge but for how impressively I presented and saved my face in front of Prof. Minakshi.
“Did you see today how carefully she was listening to you?” Vivek questioned.
“Where is she now?” I said turning to look at what I was so eager to see.
“Don’t..! She is looking at you,” Vivek said giving me a quick review of her acts.
“Are you sure, that she is interested?” I asked taking a deep breath.
I wanted to look back but then I thought I trusted him. “So what should I do?”
“I am telling you! She is interested. Sahi hai mauka mar de chokka.” Vivek said with confidence.
I was still in a dilemma after listening to Vivek. It was difficult to ignore his suggestion because I myself felt the same while passing her.

Though the charm of the book is the story but what needs to give an eye is the cover and the paper quality. Rest i believe this book has the potential to grow above five point some one.
Best wishes to the Author!!
